About UTURN

UTURN is Always Turning. Today’s pressures have robbed teenagers of their families, their purity, and their safety. UTURN is about turning this around. Weekly meetings at UTURN are loaded with fun, encouragement, and inspiration. UTURN is a safe place to grow up!

Born in Glendale, CA
I have lived in Santa Clarita since 1968.  I went to Rosedell Elementary to Arroyo Seco JHS and was the first 4-year graduating class at Saugus HS.  Go Centurions!

So why did I choose to serve in youth ministry?
Growing up here in the 70’s…when there was one drive in, one theater, and a lot of idle time…led me to make many stupid choices.  Although I grew up in Christian home, the influence of “Sex…Drugs…and Rock-n-Roll” was strong.  I was part of a youth group, but decided that my way was better and by age 17 left to do my own thing.

Today, my heart’s desire is to extend the love and “hugs” of the Savior.  My hope is that each of them know their Uturn leaders truly care about them and their futures.  I want to be a part of changing the horrible statistic that 85% of teens leave the church after high school

Funny Youth Group story
Pants-ing can be dangerous to your health!  If you’re going to pants someone (not my favorite thing that teens do…), make sure they have their underoos on…lol!  Winter camp 2006…girls tried to pants leaders…but didn’t expect us to be “commando” under our PJs.  so who had the last laugh? Me!  Youth ministry…love it!

I have attended church since the crib, learned about Jesus as a child, and accepted him as my Savior at church camp at the age of 12.
I serve in Uturn with our Youth Trac Welcome Center, on Worship Team, and just returned from a mission’s trip to Thailand. I’ve learned so much from older women in my life and now I lead a mentoring Life Group, GGG (Girls Guiding Girls).

I had a lot of stuff happen in my life that made me feel very insignificant.  I want teens to know that no matter what happens in their life, Jesus loves them and will get them through anything, and that God will restore back to them what the enemy tries to rob and steal.

1 Peter 5:2-4
“Care for the flock of God entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly – not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don't lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your good example. And when the head Shepherd comes, your reward will be a never-ending share in his glory and honor.”

Stand firm

“…I have written to you briefly, exhorting and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.”  (1 Peter 5:12)

In this verse Peter states the theme of his epistle.  It is by the grace of God that we are born again, that we have hope, that we are secure in Him, that we can overcome fear, that we can strive for holiness, and that we can grow in spiritual maturity, as well as many other aspects of a life of faith as described in this elegant letter.  It is by grace that we can practice Biblical submission, that we can establish our homes in order and in peace, that we can serve Him, and that we can embrace suffering in His name.  It is by grace that we can “…rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory (1:8),” and it is by grace that we “…obtain as the outcome of our faith the salvation of our souls.”  (1:9)  In America we don’t see the onslaught of persecution as experienced by the early church under the Romans, or for that matter the persecution that is experienced by Christians all over the planet today.  Nonetheless we need to stand firm in our corner of the world, exhorting and testifying to our teens.  We can do this by God’s grace.

Meet more of the Leaders of UTURN

Daniel.JPGMeet Daniel William Love. Business owner, web Developer, and actor. Daniel helps run the lighting, and visual for UTURN. He was born in Norfolk, VA to his parents Chris & Cathy Love, he has two sisters Christi & Kelley (the very same Kelley that you just read about--Kelley McFarland).  Daniel's favorite verse is I Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Daniel's shares his heart for UTURN, "My heart for UTURN is steady, healthy growth in the teens who attend. I hope that my influence encourages those I'm leading toward excellence in character and quality in multimedia performance. My personal view is that a well trained team is one that is not dependant on my attendance on any given night. The media experience should be compelling and fun for the teens, but should never distract from the Good News that needs to be heard."

Daniel also shared his background and funny story in youth ministry, "Pastor Marty has impacted my life in a truly unique way. Many know that I've been @ UTURN since I was a scrub. One year, the youth group (then known as Lighthouse Youth) was on an overnighter @ Lake Buena Vista. We were playing Capture the Flag in an expansive field lit only by moonlight, when something happened… a collision of epic proportions. Pastor Marty, on a mission of grand importance, plowed into a small form in the darkness… me. After some seconds I was able to catch my breath, exclaim my health, accept forgiveness, and join back in on the fun. The mission went on… to claim the flag, and have peace on the lake once again. Memory made…"

He adds, "Pastor Marty, and the staff he has chosen, are and have been great examples of Christ to me. Through good and tough times, the message has consistently been love and truth: God loves you just as you are, but wants better for you."

I and your teens are blessed that God has brought a team of adults that love Him, have a huge desire to impact this coming generation, and that are truly as diverse as the group of teens we minister to each week. The next time you see Daniel give a high five for all his hard work, and if you want to see something cool, ask him about his little itsy-bitsy stereo in his car (JK- itsy bitsy is not quite the description of it!).
