Jennifer DeMoss plays vital part of operations at The Sanctuary church office. As the Staff Assistant to Pastor Jonathan, she uses her abilities as a multi-tasker to aid in numerous areas of ministry including: calendar management for Pastor Marty, bulletin layout, database management, CD replication, and more! In addition, you may find her filling in for Champ's children ministries, taking part in Dinner is Done, coordinating weddings, and many of the other special events that take place at the church. Without a doubt, though ministry is part of her occupation, Jen (as she's called by those around her) has a gift to help others and takes joy in blessing people. Attending The Sanctuary since age nine, Jen has enjoyed many years of life at the church, which has included meeting her husband, Dean, whom she married in August of 2002. As a couple, they truly enjoy ministry and especially have a heart for young people, having served as leaders at youth and elementary camps, as well as teachers for Wednesday night children's classes and VBS (Vacation Bible School) programs. The DeMoss' live in Canyon Country with their "kid", Rocky (dog). When Jen is not at the church, you can find her shopping, hanging out with friends, going on short vacations with Dean, or just relaxing.

Hobbies: Shopping, Baking, Hanging Out with Friends & Watching "Girly" Movies Favorite Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13, 1 Peter 5:7 & Psalm 34:19 Roles: Staff Assistant, Wedding Coordinator Nothing excites Lisa more than seeing the local church experiencing authentic community. Watching people discover that God has a plan for their lives is as good as it gets! Her desire is to do whatever she can to help the church become all that God intends for them to be. Lisa was born into a catholic family, the second oldest of five. As a child going to church every Sunday and catechism each week she learned about God and believed in Him yet she always felt as if there was something missing. At the age of 21 a Foursquare Pastor laid out the plan of salvation to her and it all came together in her heart. She made Jesus her Lord and Savior and her walk as a disciple began. Early on, the Christian leaders in Lisa's life saw in her the gifts and abilities God had placed there and spent their time discipling and mentoring her. In 1988 after years in leadership Lisa was asked to join the staff of a large church in Reno, Nevada, where she took on an administrative role along with the ministry of pastoral care and guidance. In 1994 a position opened up for her at the Santa Clarita Vineyard where she started serving in an administrative role and then became their "Community pastor." In this role, she was in oversight of the small group ministry along with the churches many connecting events and classes. Now John and Lisa call the Sanctuary Church their home and she has taken on the role of General Manager. The greatest joy in her life beside her walk with Jesus is her family. She first met her husband, John, when she was 15yrs old and he became her "first love." After some 30 years apart they found each other again and have been together ever since. They have three adult children, Patrick, Denise and Vicki and three grandchildren, Jacob, Jared and Anastasia.

Planning. Administration. Words that most people cringe at give Gina Thompson giddy pleasure! She serves the Lord with her gifts and passion by serving our Senior Pastor, Marty Walker, as his staff assistant. It was under the gentle hand of the wife of a former pastor that Gina's gifts and passion for administration were realized and developed. Before attending The Sanctuary, she and her family attended Valley (formerly Valencia) Open Bible Church, in Santa Clarita. In her seven years at VOBC, Gina served as the Director of Women's Ministry, Director of Children's Ministry, and as the church Administrator. She and her family attended there until the doors of VOBC were closed in June, 2005. When Gina and her husband, Tom, attended The Sanctuary for the first time, they knew that God had led them to a new church home and church family. Gina is a native of Santa Clarita. She graduated from Soledad Canyon Elementary (the site where the Edwards Cinemas and Sanctuary offices are now located), Sierra Vista Jr. High, Canyon High School, and Cal State Northridge (CSUN). Gina's parents met on a blind date and, similarly, it was on a blind date while in college that Gina met Tom. While on their blind date God spoke to Gina's heart, "This is the man I've chosen for you to spend the rest of your life with." After they were married, Tom and Gina bought her childhood home in Newhall from her parents. They are now raising their children, Michael and Breezy, in the home Gina was raised in! When Gina is not busy organizing for Pastor Marty, or taking care of her family, she enjoys snuggling with her dogs, Roxy and Jackie, while reading a good book (especially cookbooks!). Her favorite family vacations include trout fishing at Lee Vining Creek, and the ultimate in luxury and pampering – cruises!

In July of 2004, Terry came aboard as a Facilities Assistant to aid our Custodian Mike Stevenson in the ever demanding task of maintaining our campus and office facilities. Prior to coming on staff, Terry worked in the tool/equipment rental department at Home Depot for nearly 11 years. His experience there along with a previous landscaping background makes Terry a valuable component of the day to day and weekly operations here at The Sanctuary. Terry was born in the San Fernando Valley and actually grew up in Pacoima like our very own Pastor Marty! Terry later ended up at a church in Santa Paula with his sister. At that church he met his sister's best friend, Diana. Terry and Diana were married in October of 1983 and now have two children, Buddy and Christine. Diana works for a defense contractor management agency for the U.S. government. Terry and his family have been at The Sanctuary for a steadfast 18 years and remain so because Terry says, "The Word is preached and the fellowship is great." In his spare time Terry loves to take an occasional camping trip and do a little fishing. Terry also says he enjoys his position here vastly. The staff, the hours, and the ability to serve are just some of the reasons he takes pleasure in being on staff here. Terry feels that God has equipped him well for this ministry by serving God and our congregation. Terry hopes to pursue and raise the standard of excellence in how we steward the beautiful facilities God has given us.

Pastor Julie is a native Southern Californian, growing up primarily in the San Fernando Valley. She came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior at eight years old while attending Sepulveda Foursquare Church. In 1971 while attending summer camp at Camp Cedar Crest, the future of Julie's life was changed forever when she remembered that God specifically spoke to her about spending the rest of her life serving in the Kingdom. Little did she know that about 30 years later she would answer the call to full-time vocational ministry as a Children's Pastor. For the past nine years Pastor Julie has served in this role. If you get an opportunity to talk personally with Pastor Julie, it won't take long to realize that, with all of her experience, both in the business arena and in the church, she has never-ending ideas and energy to create an atmosphere where children will (1) want to come, (2) learn about God and (3) invite their friends. Her excitement and enthusiasm is very contagious. The greatest highlights in Julie's life are her husband Dan, whom she married in 1982, and her two children, Brenna, who is a 7th grade history teacher and married to Paul Round, and son, Garrett who is currently attending ITT Tech with an eye on obtaining a bachelor's degree in Business. Traveling with her family and friends is at the top of her fun priority list. She has traveled to England, Scotland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Ireland, Italy and many places in the United States. Pastor Julie believes that traveling is one of the best forms of education. You will most likely find her at the beach on her day off with a good book or magazine while watching her son boogie board. Her parents adopted two children as they were told they would not be able to have children of their own. Surprise! In their 40's along came one of their own - Betty Jean! She is the youngest of three children. After graduating from Owens Valley High School, she attended Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) receiving a degree in Legal Secretarial Science and a certificate in floral design. Betty Jean then moved to Hollywood where she attended Bryan College of Court Reporting (Los Angeles) and began working for the Beverly Hills law firm of Gold, Herscher, Marks & Pepper. After attending two years of court reporting school the attorneys convinced her to train as a paralegal with their firm in the hopes that she would then aspire to become an attorney. During this time, Betty Jean met her husband, Mark, who took her to Hollywood Presbyterian Church for their first date. Betty Jean also decided during that time not to pursue the law degree. She remained working for the law firm for 17 years as a paralegal and office manager until 1991. At that point she went to work for a law firm in Sherman Oaks part time managing files her previous employer turned over to the new firm. After the Northridge earthquake, Betty Jean retired from the field of law, though she returned from time to time to assist until a full-time replacement was hired. Needing to be active, retirement from law could not hold Betty Jean back. She soon became involved with her daughter's elementary school as the Parent Teacher Fellowship Events Chairman and eventually took over the PTF Presidency. In 1989 she began night classes through the Life Leadership Institute of Mutual Faith Ministries (Sepulveda, CA). Betty Jean attended with the vision of becoming trained and certified to work on the mission field (after Liz completed high school) at orphanages in many different countries throughout the world. Unfortunately, Life Leadership Institute lost part of their funding due to the 9/ll incident and Betty Jean was unable to continue. Though she grew up in a Methodist church, Betty Jean stopped attending church during college. Of course, after meeting husband Mark, that all changed. After moving to the San Fernando Valley and attending a couple different churches over the years the Donaldson's visited a "new one." On the recommendation of a youth pastor at the Northridge Foursquare Church, Betty Jean, Mark, and Liz paid a visit to The Sanctuary to meet this "awesome youth pastor" there, Pastor Marty. After more than three months of prayer, deliberation, and confirmation, Mark and Betty Jean decided to make The Sanctuary their home in September of 1992. During their years at The Sanctuary Betty Jean began serving as the designer of the children's classroom bulletin boards and has served in various capacities including Nursery Worker, Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader, Women's Ministry Leadership Team Member, Christmas Decorator, Wedding Coordinator, Church Council Member and Interim Children's Ministry Director. Whew! This lady has done it all . . . including joining The Sanctuary staff in late 2004 as Director of Children's Ministries to assist the efforts of our very own Julie Sandeen, Pastor of Children's Ministries. Betty Jean has been married for over 23 years to a wonderful, godly man who has shown her that the narrow road was much better than the road of the world. Mark and Betty Jean have one daughter, Liz, who is growing into a beautiful, godly, young woman.

She has, in quietness and strength, spent those same years raising their four beautiful children, Amanda, Victoria, Isaac and Abigail. They are truly her passion and joy. And although her role as mother is not ending anytime soon, as their kids have grown, it has afforded her more opportunities to partner with Pastor Marty in ministry. Since January 2002, she has been leading the women's ministries at The Sanctuary, Girls Like Me. Cynthia Siler has a mind for numbers . . . and, as The Sanctuary's Treasurer, she uses that ability to serve our church family through accounting and bookkeeping. Cynthia was born in Pasadena, California and lived there until she was ten when she moved to Sacramento with her family. As the eldest of three children, her organizational skills were recognized at a young age. She always liked math, and friends and family encouraged her to pursue that natural ability. Upon graduation from High School, Cynthia attended American River College (Northern California) and then transferred to Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA) where she earned a B.S. in Business & Accounting. In addition to completing this degree, she also obtained a CPA license. Her skills would eventually lead her to find work in several companies including: Price Waterhouse (auditing & small business departments), Lear Siegler, Inc. (Finance Director) and IDC Services, Inc. (Controller - specializing in payroll services for the entertainment industry). Cynthia is happily married to her husband Rick, whom she met while attending the singles ministry at The Church on the Way (Van Nuys, California). After marrying in 1989, Cynthia moved to Santa Clarita, where Rick grew up, where they have lived ever since. Rick has been working as a fireman for over 20 years and is currently serving as a Fire Captain in Culver City. Together they have two children, Caroline and Brett. Rick & Cynthia came to The Sanctuary in 1994 because of a long-time friendship with the former pastors. Cynthia has served many roles at The Sanctuary including Sunday School Teacher's Assistant, Bible Study Leader, Church Council Member and Women's Ministry Council Member. In addition to her roles on staff and church, Cynthia is a home school & stay-at-home mom. She enjoys sewing, scrapbooking (when her busy schedule allows) and is a HUGE Dodger fan (the Siler's third child is a 95-pound yellow lab named after Cynthia's favorite team).

Mike Stevenson is a man who likes to see things done right! As the Facilities Custodian of The Sanctuary, it is his role to make sure the church campus displays our commitment to excellence in serving God and the church family community. Born in Santa Monica, California, Mike eventually found his way to the Santa Clarita Valley in…Their courtship lasted four years… During the early years of marriage, Mike worked as a carpenter with a private contractor. In 1991, he took the opportunity to work as a Senior General Maintenance Worker at The LA County Sheriff's Department's Peter Pitches Detention Facility (Castaic, CA), where he served for 12 faithful years! In late 2003, Mike made a significant life change, accepting the offer to join the staff team at The Sanctuary, bringing with him a vast experience and knowledge of carpentry, construction and maintenance. The decision was not tough, given that it would mean working at the church that he, Wendy and daughters, Amanda and Grace, had been calling "home" since 1998. The reduced commute didn't hurt either, given his home is only miles from the church property! In addition to making his career at The Sanctuary, Mike has served, and continues to serve, his church family in variety of ways, including: teaching in the Champs children's ministries, building sets for productions presented by the Between the Lines drama ministry and serving as a Church Council Member. The Stevensons happily live in Canyon Country with their dog Jack. Wendy currently teaches 1st grade at Sulphur Springs Elementary School.
